Hi, I’m John Cottrell - a comic artist and illustrator with a focus on personal storytelling, especially around mental health, grief, and healing. Over the past decade, I’ve worked on everything from journal-style memoir comics to more traditional titles, collaborating with both indie creators and major publishers. Whether I’m drawing from lived experience or helping bring someone else’s vision to life, I care about making work that feels honest, human, and visually strong. I’m always open to new projects that value that same approach.
My latest project, "Overshare", is a journal-comic memoir dealing with mental health, cancer caregiving, and healing from past trauma.
I have contributed to publications by renowned companies such as Dark Horse and Marvel, as well as independently published works like "B-Squad" for my close friends. In addition to this, I've self-published my own pitches for stories like "Grimlaw" and "Dungeon Crawlers." In addition to comics, I design art for stickers, merch, and band posters. Check them out in my store DOOMBEAST.
If you're an art director, writer, or publisher seeking a creative collaborator for your project, please feel free to reach out. I'm always excited to explore new artistic opportunities.
